 Rye House Piers

…what do you do if the entrance to your ancient monument site is doing an impression of a certain Italian tower?…

Rye House Gatehouse is an English Heritage Listed Monument site. When the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority needed to carry out some urgent stabilisation work to the historic brick entrance piers they challenged Palmer Woods to provide a solution.

In conjunction with their steel fabricators, Palmer Woods devised a framework to stabilise the piers and to provide support whilst they were lifted clear of their bases to allow new foundations to be installed. The piers were then lifted back into place and re-installed on their new foundations, the steel frames removed, paving and soft landscaping re-instated leaving the piers vertical and ready to face another 400 or so years.
